We are looking for an exceptional Automation Scientist with a strong foundation in Immunology and Biotechnology. This pivotal role is designed for an individual passionate about leveraging automation to elevate the efficiency and quality of both our R&D and manufacturing landscapes.

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Strategic Automation Leadership: Formulate and implement strategies and tactics to enhance automation performance across the board.
  • R&D and Manufacturing Automation: Spearhead automation initiatives within research and development, as well as manufacturing processes, to boost throughput and precision.
  • AutoMATR System Management: From design and integration to maintenance, ensure the AutoMATR systems operate seamlessly and effectively.
  • Documentation and Data Integrity: Uphold meticulous documentation practices and guarantee the accuracy and integrity of automation-generated data.

To fulfill these responsibilities, you will:

  • Develop and optimize automation assays for MAT Research products, including ELISA.
    Facilitate the setup and troubleshooting of AutoMATR robotics at client sites.
  • Conduct training sessions for both team members and clients, focusing on laboratory automation techniques.
  • Revise and refine SOPs related to operations and automation.
  • Troubleshoot robotics and instrumentation, ensuring efficient error recovery.
  • Design integrated platforms for comprehensive automation of workflows.
  • Innovate automated methods and data solutions to enhance productivity.
  • Regularly maintain robotic platforms to ensure operational excellence.
  • Contribute to cross-functional meetings with insightful presentations of results.
  • Champion data integrity throughout automated processes.
  • Explore and integrate advanced automation and assay strategies, incorporating AI and machine learning.
  • Analyze and report data, employing computational tools as needed.
  • Remain abreast of the latest trends and technologies in automation.

Job requirements

  • Living in the Netherlands near Leiden or able to relocate in the short term.

  • Proven experience with liquid handling systems.

  • A Master’s degree and at least 2 years of post-graduate experience in Robotics, Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Automation, Biophysics, or a related field.

  • Solid educational background in Immunology, Engineering, Automated Sciences, Computer Science, Biology, Chemistry, or a related field, with hands-on experience in assay development and execution.

  • Expert-level skills in data analysis software and modern quality management systems.

  • Proficient in generating, analyzing, and interpreting scientific data from robotic platforms.

  • Skilled in mechanical troubleshooting, particularly with liquid handlers.

  • Experienced in programming (R, Python) and script writing to automate tasks.

  • Familiar with data science tools such as Python, R, SQL/no-SQL databases, AWS, Docker, etc.

  • Innovative with an entrepreneurial attitude, looking beyond what is possible and known.

  • Self-starter with teamwork skills, adept at juggling priorities to nail deadlines.

  • Willing to hit the road for occasional business trips.

  • Fluent in English; proficiency in Dutch, German, or French is a major plus.

  • Prior experience in a GMP/GLP and/or ISO 9001 environment is highly desirable.

  • Hands-on experience in PBMC isolations, cellular assays, and analytical-based assays (ELISA, Flow Cytometry) according to regulatory standards such as ICH is an added advantage.


Your compensation will be:

  • Competitive base salary (Full-time, 40 hrs/week)

  • Twenty-five vacation days per year and your National Holidays off.
